Give the gift of Kindness this holiday season to a young child in your life!

“You did it for me – Friendship and Kindness” is a wonderful book that introduces children to specific things that they can do to care for other kids at their school.  The book is based upon Matthew’s “Whenever you did it for the least of my brethren, you did it for me!” gospel, but instead of telling the child what to do, it leads by example, using easy to understand examples of kind responses to five common dilemmas that every child faces at school, sooner or later.

Where the Gospel verse says “For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat”, this wonderful children book mirrors this an upset child with grumbling tummy saying “I forgot my lunch today, and now I am so hungry!” on one page and then the next relieves that problem with the simple act of kindness from another child “I didn’t know you, but you shared your pizza with me anyways!”.

The book continues with the other situations mentioned in this gospel. Being thirsty for knowledge and having someone help you learn how to do your homework or being a stranger in a strange new school and having someone welcome you and invite you to play with their friends!  Forgetting to bring your coat to the bus stop and having a new friend share their coat with you.  Finally being sick and imprisoned in a hospital and having your friends visit you!

All of these dilemmas are met with very simple, concrete examples of kindness that can be quickly put into action by any child (and parent!) to make the world a much better place!
